Machu Picchu is undoubtedly a bucket-list destination, but it has become extremely commercialized, with large crowds and strict entry rules that can take away from the spiritual and historical experience. The hike is also physically demanding and expensive.

Alternative: Consider the lesser-known Inca Trail to Choquequirao, which offers a similar experience with far fewer tourists.
